I received a job offer from the largest tech company in Canada, but also a medical school acceptance letter one week later. I chose the latter but with a minor computer science degree and solid fundamentals at the start of 1990’s internet era, I have been able to keep abreast in the digital world.
A decade ago my medical group partner hired an IT company to set up electronic medical records (EMR). It gave bad and costly recommendations, and every minor technical glitch became a 2-hour work ticket which I could have solved easily. I realized then the predatory practice of these companies preying on busy medical professionals. I decided to put my non-medical knowledge to good use to help the medical community, in additional to my full-time job as a board-certified neurologist.
